Jade's Schizophrenia research

Schizophrenia research

As the actress with Schizophrenia I decided to do a little background work on the subject in order for me to understand the character.

What is Schizophrenia?

Schizophrenia is a complicated health problem that affects thinking in the brain. It can show itself in a number of ways and not every person affected by this health problem will have the same symptoms as another.

* Schizophrenia can affect any person, and is normally developed in early adulthood. Some people get hit with it quickly, turning their thoughts into a complete muddle and can sometimes place hallucinations in their path. Some symptoms include:

* The person may hold an unusual belief that is false with unshakeable conviction.

* The person shows little emotion or if they do express any it may appear out of context, for example crying at a joke. They may become withdrawn, avoiding the company of friends and family and staying in their room.

* The person may say very little and rarely initiate a conversation. They may speak in a way that seems muddled and illogical, giving out little meaning. They may think or act in a way that cannot easily be understood. He or she may become uncharacteristically hostile to members of the family.

The behaviour is not deliberate and it is seen that the person is uninterested in life.

No one really knows the cause of Schizophrenia but It is believed that stress is one of the main contributors. Some people recover from this illness in about 5 years, some will never recover.

There is a common misconception that people with schizophrenia are dangerous, unstable people. The media, who sometimes use the terms like “schizo” in order to describe people who perform violent acts, is often to blame for this impression.
