Ben's Second Advertisement Poster (draft version)

Above is the poster that will be released one month prior to the film, the new pieces that are on this poster compared to the first poster are that the production details and the film's release date is stated on here.

The 'Little Fockers' poster above, which is their release poster, includes Actors names, tagline and production details, this is therefore why I have included these in my poster.

The 'Toy Story 3' release poster above includes the release date of the film on its poster but does not state any other pieces of information.
For my poster I didn't like the idea of just stating the season of release so I incorporated 'Toy Story 3's' method of stating the actual date aswell as the other factors that the 'Little Fockers' poster has.

Ben's First Advertisement Poster (final version)

The poster above is the final version of the poster that would be seen 5 months prior to the film being released. This has changed from the draft version by adding a tagline, the films website address and the production company logo.
These changes were made by advice that was given to me, by seeing these changes i now understand why these changes were needed.

Extra Narration

As a group we decided that it would be a good idea to put a piece of narration at the end of the production to show that it is being left open and that there is more to come after. To create a cliff hanger. This is what we wrote down:

1) That's when it all begun
Gradually, the tide crept up on us and swept across my mind.

2) And that's when it all began
Crept up on us like a wave, gradual but persistent, eventually moving over my mind like the water over an unprotected sea bed.

3) And that's when it all began
Crept up on us like a wave, gradual but persistent, inevitable and powerful, eroding our happy lives.

This is the narration that we finally decided on:

This is when it hit us, like a wave, gradual but persistent, inevitable and powerful, eroding our happy lives.

Ben's Tagline ideas

Since constructing my first advertisement poster it has come to light through research that film advertisement and merchandise include taglines, which is a small sentence that describes the film.

Taking this information into consideration i decided to redraft my original poster so that i could include a tag line.

To decide on the tagline i researched the meaning behind the flower Forget Me Not (found on marriage.about.com) and discovered the meaning is: true love, hope, remembrance and memories. I therefore decided that the tagline should revolve around this.

I thought up 5 ideas, these were;
  • Memories of true love and hope
  • True love + hope= memories
  • In hope and love we remember our memories
  • Through love we hope to discover lost memories
  • With love, with hope, we can remember

After i thought up the ideas i put it to a vote to the rest of the class to decide the tag line.

The tagline that came out top and therefore i will use is 'With love, with hope, we can remember'

Ben's First Advertisement Poster (draft version)

The poster above is the draft of the one that will be shown five months prior to the release of the film.

We have chosen to release the poster five months prior to the film coming out because research has shown using 'Little Fockers' that they released their first advertisement poster for the upcoming film in August 2010 and the actual film was released December 2010. This information was found using imbd.com. (poster below)

Another example of a poster being released quite some time prior to the release of the film is 'Toy Story 3' where the poster was released September 2009 and the film was released in July 2010. This information was found on collider.com. (poster below)
I felt this amount of time for 'Toy Story 3' was too long so i went for the amount of time 'Little Fockers' poster was released.

Jade's Magazine design (two)

This is the second design that I came up with, I think that it looks better than my first one in some ways. The picture of myself standing on the pier takes up the whole background of the magazine, which resembles the real Empire magazine more than before. The idea of using a scene from the film also ties in nicely with some of the other things our group has produced, which shows continuity. The bar code and the 'Empire' title were taken from 'Google Images' to give the additional effect of the real magazine. I downloaded some different fonts that I thought matched better, the title is now more readable and the bold font underneath looks like the kind of font used by the real magazine.

Jade's Magazine design (one)

This is the first design that I have created based on an Empire magazine. I thought that Empire is a well known magazine that would help endorse our film, and demonstrate how our film can adapt across the media. I took a picture and cut it out from the background using Corel PaintShop photo pro x3, and placed it where I thought looked good, on the right hand side. According to the rule of thirds, this is where the eye is drawn to first. The flower decorations, the bar code and 'Empire' title were taken from 'Google images' and I think that the design matches the film genre. I downloaded most of the fonts after carefully choosing which ones would suit the film. The colours of the font and the general colour scheme match in with the whole underlying theme of the film, the sea. Being the first design that I created, I don't think that it fits in with our other poster designs. However I think that it might look good as the cover of a teen magazine or something like that.

Jade's Location and camera rough cut feedback

Rough cut feedback

Before asking for the feedback we showed a group of people our opening sequence. The feedback we received was positive and negative; however they did let us know what we could do to improve on the negatives. We agreed that I should work on Locations as this was my main area and camera tied in with this.

Locations and camera

Positive

* It was said that our locations were good and they thought they tied in well with our storyline.

* We had a good variety of locations spread out which also added to the intensity of the account.

* People thought that the movement of the camera was good, and consistent.

* Where we placed the camera to film was thought to be right for all of the scenes.

* The lighting we chose in the locations added effect of the overall creation.

* The amount of different shots that we had was good.

Negative

* They said that the main characters’ eyes didn't look ‘menacing’ enough. They suggested that we use a closer shot of them in order for her schizophrenic personality to be shown more.

We were thrilled that people liked our production more than was thought, and we will keep adding to the rough cut and include the advice that we have been given.

Dylan's SOUND rough cut feedback

Chloe Tetu's Rough Cut Feedback for mise en scène

On showing the rough cut to other people, we received feedback both praising our production and giving us constructive criticism helping us to improve on our opening sequence.

I was mainly in charge of mise en scène,-costumes and props-, and the majority of the feedback we got was positive. The people that watched the sequence said that the clothes were appropriate for the characters and portrayed their personalities well.

Furthermore, they also said that the props used went well in the set, and were necessary and suitable to the environment in which the characters were in and the actions that the characters were making.

As a group, we were really pleased with the feedback we received as we had worked hard to make the rough cut production the best that it could be. On hearing the comments, we will continue to work hard and make the final opening sequence the greatest it can possibly be.
